More comfortable
Dr. Smith had a brilliant idea yesterday. Britney's pain was still bad and she figured out it was from her tight muscles and put her on muscle relaxers. She has been very peaceful. She is really tight in her arms and neck and has developed some flexion contractures over the last few days. She had heat put on them and I stretched her muscles and gave her a few good massages. It helped a lot but she is still in a lot of pain in her neck and arm. She has a urinary tract infection she is being treated for. The official report of the CT showes that her lungs are better and no pneumonia, or bowel infection. The phyical therapists at UMC don't want to work with her because they say they don't just do range of motion. We are working on it ourselves. It is very frustrating, hopefully we will get some good therapy and she will follow commands more and more so they will be willing to work with her. We have been reading to her a lot and she has been looking at us while we read. We read her all of your comments you post and she is very relaxed while we read them to her.

I can't imagine your frustration. It is like two steps forward and three steps back. I think it is important to remember each day that she has fought so hard already and she has shown enough to let you know she is still there and trying. The rest has to be good for her, even if it inhibits her progress. Our thoughts and prayers are with you daily.
ReplyDeleteQuite agree with Brenda above...thank you again for keeping us up to date.. Jan talks of you both too and how she calls each day and that Britney listens intently..who wouldn't ..Jan has a very soft listenable tone.. even if she does tell me what for and how it is.. sometimes! My daughter, Heidi ,has decided to come home from VA. she has been in a working student position for 20 months now... on a horse farm where she rides.trains.teaches and shows at eventing..if the children like to see horses you can go to her blog from mine or at www.takeachanceinva.wordpress.com I will going to VA and driving back with her and her horses....via the championships in Chicago..take care... praying for you all thru the days and whenever the thought pops in my head.. which is frequent... toodle pip for now..as my Nan would say..
ReplyDeleteDidn't realize that Britney was back at UMC, hopefully this is just temporary and they'll be able to control her pain and get her tuned up. It sounds like she is making progress little by little -- expressing herself and interacting more each day. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Danielle Logan and my husband, Clinton, and I are new to the ward. I came across this blog through the RS newsletter and have been very touched by your story. I wish I had some way of making everything better for your and your family, but I thought I'd at least let you know that you have been added to my prayers and the prayers of my family.
My life has been full of medical issues and if there is one thing I know, it is that our lives really are in the Lord's hands. He has provided me and my doctors with inspiration and miracles beyond explanation. He will never give us more than we can handle and I marvel at the perserverance of you, Britney, your children and your family.
I believe in miracles and I also believe the Lord gives us these opportunities to see his power. I know He knows the answers and will share them with us as we ask for them.
You can do it!
Love,
Danielle Logan
John,
ReplyDeleteI had a small amount of down time when I was on call and started browsing through my friends' blogs which I haven't done in a while and found all this out and I am heart broken...Britney was such a great friend, and I'm so sad to hear all this news. I'm praying for you and your children and Britney. I've been thinking about you all day and night. I know the Lord hears prays and miracles happen every day. I'm glad to hear of her progress and will follow all your updates closely now. Please know that Brian and I are thinking of you.
Brian and Yohanna Vernon
Rooting for you all the way, Britney!

I was glad to read that you read the posts to Britney (can I tell her thanks again for meetings for ice cream right before the move - it must have been busy at your home and she still made it to visit teach me). How are the kids doing now? Is there enough help caring for them? We only wish we were there to lend a hand!
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that Britney had to go back to UMC, but it sounds like it's for the best. From what I've read it sounds like she's making progress everyday, which is amazing. Please, please let me know if I can help you out at all. I'd be happy to watch the kids whenever. Hang in there, I'm thinking about you and Britney everyday!

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through a friend whose husband works with you, John. I wondered if you are allowed to have outside care providers come in to do bodywork. I know of a local woman who might be able to help you. If you are interested, you can contact me through my blog. Bernadette
